I kept starting this comment but failing to finish it and losing it after it had been sitting too long. Did it from my computer instead of my phone to finally post my notes!

So... as a fellow lover of this One Plus One equals Cocktail format, I have a couple notes that I'd like to share to enhance enjoyment.

1) Of all the grapefruit sodas I've tried, I still return to Ting. Of course, it's the preferred companion for a Wray & Ting, but I also love it in Palomas and any other drink calling for grapefruit soda.

2) I'm a big fan of whisky highballs, particularly a good Toki haiboru. In the realm of sparkling mineral water, I prefer Gerolsteiner, but Liquid Death and Topo Chico are also great. Tequila + lime + Topo Chico = Ranch Water. If citrus can be added without ruining the formula, Ranch Waters belong in this conversation!

3) Rum + Coconut water or cocoyage is also great. It's especially fun to crack open a fresh young coconut, pour in rum to taste, and walk around drinking it out of the coconut itself. Hard to beat.

4) Growing up in Atlanta, I was very accustomed to drinking Coca-Cola, but now I've so acclimated myself to drinking Coca-Cola with alcohol that it tastes weird without booze in it. I'm big on Brandy & Coke, but Cuba Libre also works, too. I love using overproof rum like Smith & Cross or Plantation OFTD.

5) Nearly all fortified wines lend themselves to this formula: port + cherry soda, sherry + citrus soda, vermouth + mineral water or Coca-Cola, and madeira + tonic. If you have a bottle of vermouth that's nearing the end of its life, blend it with sherry and citrus soda and pop it in a porron!

6) Lastly, I've loved the Della Mela since I had it at the Eat the Rich Calvados event you held at Eat the Rich those many years ago. I buy Chinotto whenever I see it so I can make Della Melas. Thanks for reminding what you called it. I'd forgotten.

Cheers!
