My father, who passed away in 2021, had a fascination with Piesporter Goldtropfchen. He was a wine aficionado that lived in the SF Bay Area. I wish I had taken the time to better understand his connection and affinity for this wine. I'm not sure if he had ever actually visited the region before. If he had, it would have been in the late 60's. I always just assumed a fellow wine hound had introduced him to it and that he just really loved to say "Piesporter Goldtropfchen". The name certainly was memorable. Nonetheless, he left behind 3 bottles that we are still waiting for the right occasion to taste side-by-side. The bottles are a 2006 Reuscher-Haart Riesling Kabinett, 2009 St Christopher Riesling Spatlese, and a 2013 Freiherr Langwerth von Simmern Riesling. Thank you for this piece. It certainly added some substance to memories of my Dad and him speaking of this wine. I would have loved to have shared and discussed your article with him. I'm sure he would have gotten a real kick out of it. Next step: plan a trip to the Mosel region.... it looks absolutely beautiful.
