Always and forever, I carry the torch for my beloved Scandinavian spirit. As midsummer approaches, these bottles and cocktails will quench your Nordic thirst.
I'm so glad to see aquavit on the rise here! As a half-Swede, I can highly recommend the aquavit from Independence Spirits in NJ - caraway forward, smooth, and f'ing delicious! It's a woman-owned distillery with Swedish connections.
Thanks for this. A few years ago a Danish friend brought over a bottle of aquavit and a jar of Blue Hill Bay pickled herring in wine sauce. (That's a widely-available brand made by Acme Smoked Fish.) It was delicious, but I never followed up by buying my own aquavit. I did, however, get hooked on pickled herring. What's your favorite pickled herring?
My Danish friend said about the Blue Hill Bay herring in wine sauce: "This is the good stuff." A foodie friend in Brooklyn told me Acme is an institution. Every Friday, from 8:00 am until 1:00 pm, Acme opens up the warehouse for sales to the general public. He says lines are around the block. Happily, I can find Blue Hill at my local wine shop's gourmet department (the Wine Library), where I'll look for aquavit this weekend. Blue Hill is also available at my local ShopRite. https://acmesmokedfish.com/collections/fish-friday#filters=|sort=featured

Should we point out that this distillery is near....Swedesboro?
Nice suggestion! I'm dropping the link here: https://isdistillery.com/collections/clear-spirits/products/aquavit-375ml
