I backpacked all over Australia and Europe in the 90s and early 2000s with Lonely Planet. I still have my worn copies. The latest issues of LP are Just content writing. No maps, no useful info for travelers. Feels like reading a blog or an IG post. I wrote for Rough Guides and I am proud of what I wrote and feel like I gave very good tips for any gay person going to San Diego. I used to work as a guide in Rome before SEO and IG took over. I had the most curious clients. Underground Rome in the morning, wines of Lazio in the evening. My husband is a licensed guide in Rome and I am in a guide chat with 200 guides and it's just 3 hr Vatican's and 3 Hr Forum and Colosseum tours now. It is weird to have witnessed first hand the decline of curiosity but also the decline in thoughtful travel media that isn't just lists or adding stuff because it was a freebie. I'm assuming you are also Gen X?

I am!
I would like to take your Rome tour!
I have so much to say about this that my comment would probably be as long as your article. *sigh*
Haha give us the short version?
